How must a pallet be made in order for it to be safe?

Marco CazzinIn depth Analysis, Laws and Racking

If we talk about safety in industrial racking, we cannot avoid mentioning the pallet racking and therefore, as the name says, even the pallets – loading pallets or pallets – the basis for the overwhelming majority of transports and of storage in the world of logistics.

The European pallets

Different formats of pallets exist: in Europe, the Epal format has nine feet, from 145 to 100 mm on the side, in two classic sizes of 800 x 1200 mm (EUR) and of 1000 x1200 mm (Philips).

But how to guarantee that they are safe?

First of all, the load: each pallet must never surpass its load beyond its nominal capacity.

It is fundamental that the type of pallet is compatible with the specifications of the storage system. It is severely forbidden to use damaged pallets: it could represent a serious danger to people and irreparably damage the merchandise.

The fundamental specifications of the pallets

Each pallet must not flex more than 25 mm if supported by pallet racking guides with a capacity of 20 mm on a single side, while the width must be equal to the free space between the guides.

Unforgettable accessories for your pallets

In the cast that steel pallets are used, opportune bases for pallets must also be used. While, in the case of transportation of heavy and bulky loads, the pallet must be accompanied by accessories able to guarantee their correct stability.
